Introduction
Vexel Art takes a great deal of time, patience and skill, contrary to public opinion. This misunderstanding has arisen because, sadly, it is often (incorrectly) said that vexel art is simply tracing a posterized photograph. While I do agree that this is a way that many people start off in the media, and a small number of people continue in it, vexelling is a form of drawing, in the same way as any other media. As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one. Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one

Resources Gallery Makeover (REMINDER)So all those sub cats...
Its no secret that the stock and resources gallery is HUGE. On a scale thats intimidating, complicated and a bit like a bottomless pit of sub, sub, sub, sub, sub cats.
Last year we were very lucky to have a bit of a makeover job in Resources/Fonts and Resources/Stock, however, we are looking with "new deviant's eyes" (Yes, we kidnapped new deviants and stole their eyeballs) to look at our gallery long and hard. HARD.

Did you know that dA has thousands and thousands of stock photographs that you can use for FREE, and they're right at your fingertips? Have you visited the Stock & Resources gallery today?
I've heard so much complaining going on around here over who can use what stock and when and where and why and how . . . and now I'm hearing people trash our stock providers. That's where it needs to stop, because those providers have done nothing to us except spend hours upon hours taking, preparing, and uploading stock photographs for us to use. And there are some really gorgeous ones out there for all our stock needs.
The biggest complaint I hear now is that some of the stock providers here disappear, so we can't contact them for commercial permission if we want to expand our portfolios. I agree that that can be a problem, but it's a problem anywhere-- not just on dA. What can w

Insanity Contest WinnersWe have received 33 entries - which is the top record in our contests so far, way more than our previous top, which was 18 entries. I am really happy to see that. Including me, 50 people voted - and that's almost twice as many as on our previous contest, awesome. Vexel Week

Why hello thar! I think contests are so much fun, and as part of Vexel Art Project Educate Week, I am hosting a mini contest for you

This contest is open to everyone, whether you’re a pro vexel artist or never touched a pen tool before in your life

If you’re a beginner, or not sure about vexel art but want to participate, take a look at my recent article A Guide To Vexel Art, which includes everything you need to know about the media, including some useful links and tutorials.

You can also find all the info you need on the front page of #TheVexelGroup.

The Aim

I have done a vexel lineart of an apple, as you can see right here:

The aim of the contest is to colour that lineart using the media of vexel! You can use whatever colours you like, it doesn’t have to be realistic – if you think the apple should be blue with pink stripes, then go ahead

You must fill the whole page, so not just colouring the apple itself, but the background as well.

You can use any style of colouring you like, the only criterion is that it has to be vexel

Judging

The judging will be based purely on creativity and your use of the media, so don’t worry if you’ve never tried vexel art before – if you’re creative (which I guess you must be if you’re a dA member!) then you’re in with a chance of winning.

The judging will be done by me and a small selection of the Community Relations volunteer team.

Prizes

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for this contest, so plenty of chance to win something fantastic!

First Place winner will receive a One Year Premium Membership OR the points equivilent (2,396

)

Second Place winner will receive a Six Month Premium Membership OR the points equivilent (1,272

)

Third Place winner will receive a Three Month Premium Membership OR the points equivilent (636

)

Entering Info

To enter the contest, you must colour the lineart using vexel media only, upload the completed deviation to either your Scraps, or the Digital Art > Vexel > Miscellaneous category. Please do not upload it to your sta.sh, as I will need to add entries to a collection in my favourites for judging

Once you’ve uploaded it, please send it as a LINK or a THUMBNAIL to me, aka ^TheLastHuzzah, in a NOTE titled ‘mini contest’.

I’ll reply to your note letting you know I have your entry, and I’ll add it to my favs. If you don’t receive a reply from me within 24 hours, try sending the note again.
