Welcome to Vexel Art week with Project Educate! I am ^TheLastHuzzah, your host for the week. Today I am introducing you to Vexel Art, and digging nice and deep to aid the understanding of this fantastic media. I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have, so if anything confuses you or you’d like clarification, please don’t hesitate to comment!

:star: Introduction
Vexel Art takes a great deal of time, patience and skill, contrary to public opinion. This misunderstanding has arisen because, sadly, it is often (incorrectly) said that vexel art is simply tracing a posterized photograph. While I do agree that this is a way that many people start off in the media, and a small number of people continue in it, vexelling is a form of drawing, in the same way as any other media. PE Artist Interview: VAngelLJHello! How are you today? Could you tell us a little about yourself?
Hello! I'm good thank you. My name is Leo, I live in England and I've been a member of deviantART for around 8 years now (quietly).
So, when did you first discover Vexel Art?
I came to discover vexel art in 2007, and it was introduced to me by `AwsumZ. I like the media because it is versatile and I find it relaxing, which is why I've been doing it ever since.
And how would you describe your work?
I'd describe my work as semi-realistic, and I like to think I'm creative with it at the same time as keeping the realism - as in, I tend to follow stock references to a certain extent, but I love to add all my own ideas into it and 'mix it up'.

If someone were to ask you, “what is vexel art?”, what would you tell them?
I tend to tell people that vexel art is blocks of solid colour or g

First was the trivia chat event held on Friday 11th, with 20 questions all somehow relating to vexel art around dA :D Thanks to everyone who came along, and also a special thanks to ^dekorAdum who kept the chat topic updated for me, for I am not really chat-savvy yet :XD:
After all was done, the winner - with a fantastic 9 points - was =Eitvys200, who wins 800 :points: :w00t: Congratulations! And the two runners-up, with 4 and 3 wins respectively, were *dully101 and =James--Steele, who win 400 :points: each! :clap:

2012 Roundup!2012 has seen #projecteducate advance with the changing times here on deviantART and become an official group! That means that it has been a lot easier to bring you all the information, features, interviews and articles as part of various Project Educate weeks. So with the functions of groups at our fingertips, the articles shared are all in organised gallery folders for ease - all of which are linked in this article.
2012 also saw the Introduction of Community Weeks headed up by members of the community. Vexel Art and Stock: Making The Most Of ResourcesMany vexel artists like to use stock images as a creative influence for their artwork. Most stock images on deviantART are generously provided free of charge for this very purpose, so why not use them? :dummy: There are several forms of stock images out there, but for the purpose of this article, we are going to be looking into portrait photography, as this is a very popular choice for vexel artists.

PE - Photojournalism - Masters of Photography IIIAlfred Eisenstaedt (1898 – 1995) was a German-born American photographer and photojournalist. He is best known for his photograph of the V-J Day celebration and for his candid photographs.
Eisenstaedt began taking photographs as a freelancer for the Pacific and Atlantic Photos' Berlin office in 1928. Eisenstaedt successfully became a full-time photographer in 1929.
Four years later he photographed a meeting between Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini in Italy. Other notable, early pictures by Eisenstaedt include his depiction of a waiter at the ice rink of the Grand Hotel in St. Moritz in 1932 and Joseph Goebbels at the League of Nations in Geneva in 1933. Although initially friendly, Goebbels scowled for the photograph when he learned that Eisenstaedt was Jewish.
Because of oppression in Hitler's Nazi Germany, Eisenstaedt emigrated to the United States in 1935 where he lived in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, for the rest of his life.

PE - Photojournalism - Masters of Photography IIWilliam Eugene Smith (December 30, 1918 – October 15, 1978) was an American photojournalist known for his refusal to compromise professional standards and his brutally vivid World War II photographs.
He began his career by taking pictures for two local newspapers. He moved to New York City and began work for Newsweek and became known for his incessant perfectionism and thorny personality. Smith was fired from Newsweek for refusing to use medium format cameras and joined Life Magazine in 1939. He soon resigned from Life, too. Smith joined the Magnum photo agency in 1955. There he started his project to document Pittsburgh. This project was supposed to take him three weeks, but spanned three years and tens of thousands of negatives. It was too large to ever be shown, although a series of book-length photo essays were eventually produced.
In January 1972, Smith was attacked by Chisso employees near Tokyo, in an attempt to stop him from further publicizing the Minam

PE Stereoscopy: What's Stereoscopy Anyway?So what is Stereoscopy Anyway?

Stereoscopy, commonly known as '3-D' is a method of creating an image which creates an illusion of depth. This works by showing a slightly offset picture to your left eye than your right eye, making things appear further forward or back into the picture!
Stereoscopy covers any stereo viewing methods including:

:bulletgreen: Wiggle (A pair of stereo images which are alternated quickly to give the feeling of depth)
:bulletgreen: Cross-eyed/Side by Side (here's a great tutorial to help you see them)

I joined deviantART in 2007 purely for curiosity's sake. I remember that I was an intense lurker before joining, but I took the leap and made an account...only to leave a few months after.
I won't go into why I left, but I joined again at the beginning of 2009 because I missed it here. I missed what it was like, but, mostly,
PE: Pixel Artist Interview with Cyangmou
Today I bring you an interview with a talented Pixel Artist by the name of *Cyangmou.
:iconclefairykid: How did you get started in Pixel Art? Was it your first medium or did you work with something different before discovering it?
:iconcyangmou: I worked with several other mediums before, but only traditional ones, like pencil, ink and water colours. I started with pixel art because a friend made a game and it needed pixel graphics, then pixel art became a hobby and after that I started  to do visuals for games =)
